Vineyard: In Walporzheim the Air valley starts to get more narrow. The hillsides become steeper and are shaped as terraces, which constitute the vineyards ancient reputation of being one of the best in the regions.
The name of the vineyard side goes back to the Romans who settled near Walporzheim and cultivated wine and herbs in the Kräuterberg because of the good climate conditions.
The soil consists mainly of slate and greywacke decomposition stone. The steepness and the intense direct sunlight create a nearly Mediterrannean microclimate. The wines are powerful, rich in bucket with a typical herb aroma.

Vinification: Old vines, sustainable vineyard work, consistent yield reduction and careful handpicking form the basic for this wine. The yield is around 30 hl/ha. The grapes are gently transported to the winery in small boxes, spontaneous fermentation, 20 days maceration time on the mash ageing in barriques (70% new wood content) on the fine yeast for 18 months, followed by 6 months in the bottle storage. Unfiltered bottling.

Wine: This Pinot Noir is pure, fruity and concentrated. Cherry, sour cherries and black berries combine with juniper and Mediterranean herbs, cocoa and pepper to from a complex bouquet. The Wien is sustainably on the palate, shows a very fine tannin structure and a firm long-lasting finish with fresh acidity.

Sustainability: Meyer-Näkel are a certified member of FAIR'N GREEN. FAIR'N GREEN is a recognised system for sustainable viticulture in Germany, covering areas of environmental protection and social responsibility. Wineries that are certified members uphold the highest standards in sustainable practice, working in harmony with nature. They are rigorously audited every year to ensure these standards are upheld.
