Bischel's Appenheimer Spätburgunder has subtle hints of fruit and fine tannin structure. It has flavours of red berries with a hints of toasty oak. On the nose it has vibrant aromas of red fruits, cocoa powder and spice.
The grapes for this Spätburgunder were harvested from the old vines that grow on the south-facing slopes of Bischel's Appenheimer vineyards. The soil is rich in clay and limestone. Grapes were selected by hand at the end of September and fermented in their skins for about 20 days. After pressing, the wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (25% new oak). The wine was then bottled without any fining or filtration.
