The "Julius-Echter-Berg" site is located on the steep slopes of Mount Schwanberg. According to the specialised press it belongs, without doubt, to the top vineyard sites in Franconia. The gypsum soil with sediments of schilf-sandstone has a high impact on the wines: it provides them with a unique fruity, fine-aromatic and mineral character. Best sites, old grapes, highest diligence and zero-tolerance strategy are essential conditions for such exceptional wines.
Our Grossen Gewächse, the German Grand Crus, have gained a high international reputation. Produced in our best vineyards (in the “Grossen Lagen”), they have to meet the strict criteria of the VDP (Association of German Quality Wine Estates) which are: sustainable viticulture, traditional production process, selective manual vintage, reduced harvest quantity of less than 50 hl/ ha, minimum must weight of 95° Oechsle, final organoleptic test by a VDP-commission and the marketing of the wines starting from the 1st of September after the vintage.
This Grand Cru captivates with its complexity: The mineral notes coming from the soil and fine fruity flavours of peach and grapefruit shape the character of this wine. The crisp acidity ensures a delicate freshness. The components interact perfectly evolving a balsamic richness on the palate.
However, its prime time is yet to come. A mature wine devotee with open this wine in 20 years’ time with the greatest pleasure of experiencing its aromas which by then have developed to perfection.
Food recommendation: This wine suits perfectly to fish and seafood.
Aroma: Characterised by mineral notes coming from the soil, wild herb notes, ripe peach, pear, citrus, grapefruit, white pepper with a hint of exotic yellow fruit.
