A chain of hills to the west and north of the location protects the vineyards from cold winds. Due to the gradient and exposition of the land, the vineyards enjoy optimum exposure to the sun. The vineyard is classified as VDP Grosse Lage.
The heart of the Kirchspeil terrain is a composition of marlaceous clay, a large proportion of limestone skeletal remains and a small proportion of weathered chalky clay soils. Limestone is the predominant component of the sub-soil.
