Meyer-Näkel 2016 Ahrweiler Silverberg Spätburgunder Grand Cru Dry
Silberberg in Ahrweiler has steep slopes that curve like a parabolic mirror with the centre facing southwards, such exposition offers optimum growing conditions for Spätburgunder. The estate connects upper Ahr with its slate and greywacke soil down to the loess and loam of lower Ahr. The vineyards are planted at an altitude of 110-180m.
The Spätburgunders produced from this vineyard are full of character. The greywacke adds a fine fruity note whereas the loess adds the complex body to it.
Old vines are carefully managed during a strict pre-harvest reduction process, leaving only the best fully ripened grapes.
Once the 30 ha estate in harvested, grapes are gentle pressed, the wine is then matured in Barrique (70% new) oak barrels for 16 months. Once bottled the wine is left to rest for further 6 months.
Meyer-Näkel's Spätburgunder Grand Cru Dry red wine is full of character with beautiful aromas of cherries and red berries intertwined with subtle herbaceous notes and chocolate. A complex, multi-layered wine, its acidity and tannin structure ensures immense tension on the palate.
