Vintage: After an unstable winter which was extremely cold in February 2012, the vines started budding a the end of April which, compared to previous years, was rather late. After the dangers of the May frost had been weathered, growth was increased by rapidly rising temperatures. Blossoming began in early June, which was a week earlier than usual. Since blossoming was delayed and slow as a result of low night temperatures and related damages. One was already able to predict in June that an early harvest starts as in the record year 2011 would be unlikely. Sadly the yields of our white, grey and late Burgundy of below 40hl/ha were ones again very low.
On the other hand, the Riesling met the expectations of bringing healthy grapes right into November, those fulfilling market standards of a good vintage. Although there weren't any must weight peaks as in 2011. Schloss produced excellent cabinet and late harvest wines. First growth and noble sweet selection wines made of grapes harvested from the end of October to the beginning of November. Schloss Reinhartshausen used these high-quality grapes, pressed in traditional basket presses for the second year running to produce brilliant, delicate wine that demonstrates the character of terroir.
Vineyard: This, in 1970 as a result of the reforms of the German wine laws established "Monopoly" - site, comprising the sites of Brühl ansAlthan above the Castle, covers an area of 6ha and is essentially cultivated with Riesling vines. The soil has a sandy, loamy structure mixed with loess. These components combined provide a good foundation for the Riesling vines and guarantee the supply of nutrients. The Riesling from the Erbacher Schlossberg, the house vineyard, counts among connoisseurs as a classic with an elegant character. Its typical aroma of green citrus fruit combined with a scent of ripe, exotic fruit is becoming considerably more complex and versatile in higher quality. With its mineral refinement, it bears no resemblance it the wines of its big brother, the neighboring Marcobrunn.
Wine: This Riesling has rich, sweet aromas of honey, lemon and exotic fruits. It boasts perfectly balanced acidity and sweetness. Enjoy it with dessert or cheese, This wine will also improve over the next few years.
