Smoky nose, but dancingly fresh. The sweetness plays the descant to the lower minor key of blackcurrant bud, but then there is a wave of linden blossom, warm honey and jasmine which is zipped up in crisp acidity. A subtle understated fine-boned Auslese. (Tamlyn Currin – JancisRobinson.com)

Description:
Ockfen is an ancient wine town located in one of the Saar River’s tributaries. It became famous through its outstanding vineyard site of “Ockfener Bockstein”, which is a steep, south-facing slope. The soil consists of hard, gravelly slate rock, which has a very fine, powdery surface easily absorbed by the vines’ roots. This results in wines with a great mineral impact.

We picked just the best and ripest grapes for this rich and elegant Auslese. The expressive fruit and the enormous length are typical for Saar wines of that quality. The wines show complex and multi-layered floral aromas together with a precise minerally character.
