Meyer-Näkel 2022 Walporzheimr Kräuterberg Spätburgunder Grand Cru dry

Regular price £111.50

Vineyard: In Walporzheim the Ahr valley starts to get more narrow. The hillsides become steeper and are shaped as terraces, which constitute the vineyards ancient reputation of being one of the best in the region.
The name of the vineyard side goes back to the Romans who settled near Walporzheim and cultivated wine and herbs in the Kräuterberg because of the good climatic conditions.
The soil consists mainly of slate and greywacke decomposition stone. The steepness and the intense direct sunlight create a nearly Mediterranean microclimate. The wines are powerful, rich in bukett with a typical herb aroma.

Vinification: Old vines, sustainable vineayrd work, consistent yield reduction and careful hand-picking from the basis for this wine. The yield is around 30 hl/ha. The grapes are gently transported to the winery in small boxes, spontaneous fermentation, 2 days maceration time on the mash, aging in barroque (70% new wood content) on the fine yeast for 18 months, followed by 6 months in the bottle storage. Unfiltered bottling.

Wine: This Pinot Noir is pure, fruity and concentrated. Cherry, sour cherries and black berries combine with juniper and Mediterranean herbs, cocoa and pepper to form a complex bouquet. The wine is sustainably on the palate, shows a very fine tannin structure and a firm long-lasting finish with fresh acidity.
