Meyer-Näkel
The River Ahr, slate, Pinot Noir and a family wine estate that has written red wine history on the northwestern fringe of Germany’s wine-producing region. Today it’s up to two sisters to successfully continue that which has been built up by four generations - including, most importantly, Werner Näkel.
Meyer-Näkel are a certified member of FAIR'N GREEN. FAIR'N GREEN is a recognised system for sustainable viticulture in Germany, covering areas of environmental protection and social responsibility. Wineries that are certified members uphold the highest standards in sustainable practice, working in harmony with nature. They are rigorously audited every year to ensure these standards are upheld.
This is a fifth generation family estate. Today’s wine estate was established by the marriage of Paula Meyer and Willibald Näkel. Although Willibald Näkel only cultivated 1.5 hectares of vines he was already a pioneer for the then rather unusual dry red wines from the Ahr valley. Today’s 15 hectare estate is managed by his granddaughters Meike and Dörte.
"Conscious of our commitment to the long-term protection of nature, we have embarked on a path to ecological and sustainable viticulture. Our vineyards are lively and the yields are low. We rely on regional and seasonal planting and the highest possible level of biodiversity to strengthen the soil and vines. The growth of the vines is adapted to the location. As a result, we are rewarded with wines that we absolutely stand behind and in which our philosophy is perfectly expressed.“

“It would not be exaggerating to say that Meyer-Näkel makes some of the most outstanding Spätburgunder in Germany.”
