Kranz

Kranz are an organic wine producer based in the Pfalz region of Germany. They are committed to sustainable, quality-oriented viticulture that produces VDP standard wines. Kranz specialise in Riesling, Weissburgunder, Silvaner & Spätburgunder. A family-owned and run business with an age-long wine-growing tradition, it was not until the 1970s that Kranz decided to do their own bottling and marketing. The family now cultivate 25 hectares of vineyards - 60% white and 40% red grape varieties.

Converted to organic in 2013 - certified since 2016

The reason why Kranz Converted to Fair and Green:

Respect for both Mother Nature and our extraordinary vineyards, recognition of the importance of healthy soils and their biodiversity lay the cornerstone for our hard work.

Our sustainable and holistic approach, working hand in hand with the Elements is fundamental for the creation of monumental wines of excellence.

We have also been certified sustainable with the FairChoice label since 2023.

FairChoice considers all three dimensions of sustainability equally: Ecology, social and economic. The label therefore does not focus on partial aspects, but pursues a more holistic approach.

"Perhaps it was the VDP campaign highlighting the next generation but there were several impressive debut collections. One such is from Xaver Kranz of Weingut Kranz in Ilbesheim in the Pfalz. Following studies at Geisenheim and positions at top estates around Germany and in the US, Kranz returned to his family’s estate in the summer of 2023. His debut vintage ticks all the boxes of refreshing, racy and balanced, as is typical of this estate. But this year there was an exciting pfiff – the final touch, the unexpected appeal that brings something together, an inner vitality and verve – that raised the wines from well-made to wow. The collection from Rings in the Pfalz was also impressive, savoury and supple, with marked concentration."
