Meyer-Näkel 2018 Spätburgunder Blauschiefer QbA dry

Meyer-Näkel 2018 Spätburgunder Blauschiefer QbA dry

Regular price £34.45

"Roasted coffee beans and wild herbs open up to a bouquet of red and dark cherry, plus hints of chocolate cherry liqueur. Aged mostly in used French oak barrels for 11 months. Juicy and elegant on the palate, with dark berries, dried rose and just a touch of mineral tannins for structure. A gentle Spätburgunder from Ahr for delicate red meat dishes."
Sylvia Wu @ Decanter | 91 of 100 points

Character: The Blauschiefer is a very good example for the extraordinary combination of slate and Pinot Noir. The stony soil creates a mineral wine with smoky aroma of red fruits like blackberry, blueberry, red currant and dark cherry, that is accompanied by floral and roasted aroma, with a good substance and sustainability, elegant and smooth tannins.

Soil: Slate and greywacke decomposition stone

Vinification:
Fully ripeness of grapes and hand picking.
Yield about 40-45 hl/ha.
Gentle treatment of the crop.
Crushed must fermentation and maceration for about 20 days.
Maturing in barriques (French oak) for 11 months, for the most part in used barrels just to underline this elegant wine.

Drinking temperature: 15-16°C

Food recommendation: This wine goes well with poultry, light meat, pasta and mushroom as well as a spicy companion to grilled stronger spiced fish.
