Wine: A dry Riesling with fruity citrus aromas aromas, fine minerality and an elegance on the palate.
Vineyard: The Morstein vineyard is classified as VDP Grosse Lage. VPD. GROSSE LAGE (Grand Cru) is the highest classification of quality for German vineyards.
The imposing and majestic slopes of Morstein rise up the valley from the river Rhine, extending to western Gundersheim, and up to a high plateau at 280 metres above sea level.
The vineyards here have heavy clay marl soil. The subsoil is dominated by water-bearing limestone rock layers, which ensure an optimal nutrient and mineral supply to the vines, even during prolonged dry periods. The difficult to root, stony limestone substrate, combined with the late ripening of the grapes during the extended growing season, characterise this wine.
