This Riesling Grand Cru is characterised by its complexity and fine fruit flavours. Evident in the wine's bouquet, it has aromas of yellow fruit such as peach and is as bright as a bell. This dry Riesling has an elegant acidity and a discreet, yet unmistakable mineralic spiciness that lingers.
In the 15th century, vineyards in the "Kammer" site belonged to the Würzburg cathedral. Now, this old vineyard site has been rejuvenated, and since 2018, has been designated as Wirsching's Grosse Gewächse for Silvaner and Riesling. "Grosse Gewächse" or "GG" are the best white wine vineyards according to the German VDP classification system.
The Keuper rich soil is made of sedimentary rock that has veins of gypsum. Grapes grown in Keuper rich vineyards produce wines that have power and fullness, like the opulent marshland in which the rock was formed. The older the vines, the better this "terroir" can be tasted.
Riesling - the king of German white wines - plays in important role at the Wirsching winery, accounting for 20% of their vineyards. Riesling is a noble grape variety with fine fruit aromas and great elegance. At Weingut Wirsching, Riesling is only planted in the best areas. Due to the keuper and gypsum rich soil, this Riesling has a milder acidity and distinct minerality.
