Kranz 2020 Ilbesheimer Westerberg Riesling Premier Cru dry white wine

Kranz 2020 Ilbesheimer Westerberg Riesling Premier Cru dry

Regular price £27.30

"Mango sweetness floods the mouth but comes with a gorgeous salt and pepper crunchy spiciness. This is fabulous. Under the opulent tropicality of the fruit (golden, passion fruit) it is dense ans strong, weaving in darker, savoury threads of rye and toasted buckwheat and caraway. And other Kranz wine delivering more then you's expect for the price. I was rather seduced by this." / Tamlyn Currin @ Jancis Robinson / 17 points

Site: Ilbesheimer Westerberg is the west slope of the "kleine Kalmit". The "kleine Kalmit" is a little hill (272m) that was formed during the Tertiary and the sinking of the Upper Rift. The area around the Kleine Kalmit Hill in the Paptinate is called the classical square mile of goelogy, because it consists of a unique combination of rock. The soil is extremely calcareous. The upper layer consists of clay.
What makes this site special are the cook morning temperatures and ling evening sun. The not so "hot" site on the Kalmit brings ripe, healthy grapes with a crisp acidity.

Wine: Elegant yellow fruit with a hint of exotic and lemongrass, highly aromatic, fine chalky grip, long finish, fine balance, fresh juiciness and nice slightly softer acid structure salty minerality in the finish, harmonious wine with great length.

Vinification: After the selective hand-picking, the grapes are sorted again in the winery and processed very gently to obtain the best possible finesse, freshness and tension. The grapes are only lightly crushed. Without maceration, the grapes are pressed, lightly pre-clarified and fermented with natural yeast. Maturation in stainless steel.

Drinking recommendation: Seafood veal and exotic oreintal cuisine.

Drinking temperature: 12 Celsius

Alcohol: 12,5% vol.
Res. sugar: 6,4  g/l
Acidity: 7,4 g/l
