Wine: The 2022 Hohenmorgen has herbaceous, discreetly fruity and fine smoke aromas. On the palate, it has flavours of yellow fruit, with nuances of mango, pineapple and mirabelle plum. Initially, this Riesling Grand Cru has an animated sparkle, and then becomes juicy and complex. Its minerality is sparse, which gives the wine a fine mouthfeel.
Vineyard: Hohenmorgen is considered the best vineyard in Deideshem, which is in Pfalz region. The name 'Hohenmorgen' derives from two words - "Hohe" which means retaining walls and "Morgen" which is the word for the old measurement (acre). The south-facing vineyard has loamy sandy soil which is interspersed with red sandstone and has a subsoil with lime deposits.
Viticulture: After careful hand selection, the grapes were gently pressed. Fermentation took place 50% in large wooden barrels, the remaining 50% in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the individual batches remained on the lees until bottling.
Food recommendation: This Riesling Grand Cru is the perfect companion to grilled fish or poultry with light sauces, and also compliments Asian dishes and salads with vinegar based dressing.
