Wine: Hans Wirsching's Riesling Grand Cru is characterised by its complexity, great elegance and fine fruit flavours. It has a bright as a bell bouquet of yellow fruits, such as peach. There is a fine Riesling acidity, and a discreet yet unmistakable mineral spiciness.
Vineyard: In the 15th century, vineyards in the "Kammer" area belonged to the Würzburg cathedral. It is now classified as VDP Grosse Lage. VPD. GROSSE LAGE (Grand Cru) is the highest classification of quality for German vineyards.
The Iphöfer soil is rich in sedimentary rock interspersed with keuper gypsum. Keuper wines have power and fullness, like the opulent marshland in which the rock was formed. The older the vines, the better this "terroir" can be tasted - subtle fruity notes, a spicy, herbaceous aroma and a strong, mineral flavour that lingers.
Food recommendation: This Riesling is the perfect companion to chicken, pork or lamb.
