"Broad in the mouth, wides, fans out and is more loose0knit. Yet on the finish, the acidity tightens up very quickly, snaps into intentional focus. The finish is fantastic: power and fanfare, and mouth-watering. The fruit is succulent, sensuous, but even with the breadth and lavish spread, there is diamond-cutter precision in the acidity. Every bit glorious." 18 Points / Tamlyn Currin @ Jancis Robinson /
From the glacial valley of the Rhine to the south rises to the southeast the inclined vineyard on to the edge of a high plateau. Sheltered by the eastern and southern slopes of the Kirchspiel is the Aulerde halfway up the slope. The vineyards are slightly tilted to the south here. The special topographic situation on the edge of a relief termination provides optimum drainage facilities for cold air. Classified as VDP Grosse Lage.
Soil: The original Aulerde is one marked by the clay loam and clayey layer with even gracefully sans underground. The skeleton percentage is very low. Through a small part of real sandy soil here is well drained and usually easy to edit in a row. The vineyard is located in the center of the old location, at a point here where under the here up to two meters thick loess layer a vein of green Latvians permeates the underground. This gives the vines a rich supply of minerals and shapes the wine so sustainably.
The grapes for this wine come from the nearly 50 years-old Riesling vineyard in the middle of Aulerde. The harvest date is in October, when fully ripe, golden Riesling berries can be picked with intense fruit flavors. After gentle crushing and pressing of the grapes fermentation and maturation is in traditional oak casks of 1200 liters.
The wine is of great opulence and length, clear expression, and very complex in aroma, with hints of peach, melon, and figs. A great wine from a fantastic location.
