You feel the timbre of this wine reverberating through your bones from the first heartbeat. Deep, sonorous, throaty and silky. Pink and orange peaches, tropical fruit, golden pears. So voluptuous it’s as if it's spilling out the glass. The acidity has a trembling vibration; it's resonant, persistent, taut and glistening. Magnificent, demanding beauty, even at this young age."
Wine: This Riesling Grand Cru has great opulence, length and clear expression. It has intense fruit flavours and very complex aromas - with hints of peach, melon and figs. An excellent dry white wine from a fantastic location.
Vineyard: The grapes for this wine come from 50 year old Riesling vines grown in a vineyard with VDP. Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) classification. From the glacial valley of the Rhine to the edge of a high plateau, rises the sloping Aulerde vineyard, which is sheltered by the eastern and southern slopes of the Kirchspiel.
Soil: The Aulerde vineyard has soil rich in clay loam with a layer of gravelly sandstone. There is also a thick loess layer. This gives the vines a rich supply of minerals.
Vinification: The fully ripened, golden Riesling berries were hand picked in late October. After the gentle crushing and pressing of the grapes, fermentation and maturation of the wine took place in traditional oak casks.
