This Riesling Grand Cru is clear and tight, yet juicy and lively. It has a typical chalky grip with a salty aftertaste. Its exciting fine minerality complments its fruity with green apple and white peach flavours.
This Riesling Grand Cru was awarded 93 points out 100 by Decanter.
The Riesling grapes for this wine were grown in Kranz's best vineyard - the "Kleine Kalmit", which means "Little Hill". The hill stands at 272 metres above sea level and was formed during the tertiary era. The area around the Kleine Kalmit in the Palatinate is referred to as the classical square mile of geology, because it consists of a unique combination of rocks. There, the soil is extremely calcareous, and the south-facing vineyards provide the optimum conditions for growing vines. As such, this Riesling is strong in character and high in maturity.
Grapes were carefully harvested by hand and gently pressed. Fermentation took place in steel tanks with natural yeast.
