Introducing Kranz Organic Wines

The WineBarn are pleased to introduce Kranz winery to our portfolio. Kranz are an organic wine producer based in the Pfalz region of Germany. They are committed to sustainable, quality-oriented viticulture that produces VDP standard wines. Kranz specialise in Riesling, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Silvaner and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

A family-owned and run business with an age-long wine-growing tradition, it was not until the 1970s that Kranz decided to do their own bottling and marketing. The family now cultivate 42 acres of vineyards - 60% white and 40% red grape varieties. Much of the estate is situated on terraced and hillside sites, which are highly labour-intensive to work on, but provide the unique terroir which gives their wine its distinctive, rich, authentic character. Protecting the natural habitat of their vineyards is one of Kranzs core values and as such, they adhere to strict sustainable, organic farming methods.

In 2012, the skill and dedication of the winemaker was recognised by the VDP - Germanys association of elite wine producers and a guarantee of quality as Kranz were made an official member. Kranz have also impressed Germany’s top wine critics, having been awarded four stars by judges from Vinum, Flastaff and Gault Millau.

The Gault Millau guide praised Kranz’s, “Characterful winesabove all the Rieslings and Pinot Blancs - originating from the chalky sites of the Kalmit Hill - that easily reach the quality of top Grand Crus”.

Kerstin, who co-managers the site with husband Boris, says, “We are delighted to be entering the British market with The WineBarn as our trusted partner. We realise the market is not an easy one, but we hope that the quality and elegance of our wines we will woo the sommeliers and journalists alike.”
