The WineBarn would like to express our deepest sympathy for those affected by the severe floods in the Ahr region of Germany. Intense rainfall led to rivers bursting their banks. The unprecedented rise in water caused devastation - over 150 people were lost during the tragedy, many people are still missing, homes were demolished and businesses ruined. The main business in the Ahr Valley is wine and almost all wine estates, or what is left of them, are located more or less in the immediate vicinity of the river, so have been badly affected. We have heard that one of the winemakers in our portfolio - Meyer-Näkel - have lost everything: bottles, barrels, cellar equipment, cars and machinery, which is a great loss to the wine world. The VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikats) - Germany’s association of wine producers - has set up a support fund for those in the Ahr region. If you would like to make a donation, please visit;
