Allendorf 2020 Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Grand Cru dry white wine

Allendorf 2020 Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Grand Cru dry

Regular price £38.90

"A note of caramelisation and sour cream. Very, very tangy. Persistent and muscly with a burnish. Bitter orange. Interesting and different – notes behind the notes. Broad, more shoulders, more undertow, more swagger than many of its contemporaries at this tasting. Solid. A Riesling you could quite possibly pair with lamb. (TC)"

The aromas of the Roseneck Riesling Grand Cru are elegant. It'd almost as if you can smell the scent of the roses surrounding the vineyard, as well as hints of passion fruit, pineapple and peachy notes. The fruitiness of the fragrance can also be distinguished in the taste. The wine is very smooth, mineralic and has a well-balanced harmony that invites further tasting.

Vineyard: The Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck vineyard site is between the Berg Schlossberg and Drachenstein vineyard sites. The name Roseneck refers to the many wild rose bushes found on the cliffs in this area. This vineyard site comprises of two parts - an eastern and a western part. The western part is dominated by a canyon-like indentation and has the steepest slopes. Most of the vineyard site is covered with stony, gritty soil.
The vineyard gradually becomes fairly flat in an eastward direction and is bordered on the eastern side by a cliff. The deep soil there is rich in loess and clay. The gradient of the Berg Roseneck is 15° and the site is entirely south-facing and protected from late frosts.
The combination of south-facing slopes and soils from the Taunus' parent rock (quartzite with slate), produces delicate wines with a well balanced acidity. It is precisely this balance which promises wines well-suited for longer aging.
